Sounds of the Underground
SO yesterday was the Sounds of the Underground show at Starland. We got there around 2, while High on Fire was playing. Their set was over soon and we went to get closer to the stage for Strapping Young Lad. DEvin Townsend = craziest person EVER. After them was Throwdown. Most of the dancing I did all night came during Throwdown's set. I don't know most of their songs, but i know they played Intro, Unite, and Forever. So after Throwdown i called cheese to see where everyone was...turns out they were practically in the front of the line to meet Lamb of God. I met up with them and got a poster signed by all the guys in LoG. During this time, Everytime I Die and Norma Jean played, both of which weren't that good. After getting food and merch and stuff, we went up really close to the stage for Opeth. As everyone expected, Opeth was fucking amazing. They only played 3 songs in a 35 minute set because their songs are so damn long. They played The Drapery Falls, a new song, and Demon of the Fall. Demon of the Fall might have been the best song of the night. I think after Opeth was Chimaira. They were suprisingly good. They played the only two songs i know from them, Severed and Powertrip. Poison the Well came on next. They opened with "Zombies are Good for your Health" and then they eventually played Botchla, SLice Paper Wrists, and Nerdy....definitely a very fun set. Then finally Unearth played. Their setlist was: Great Dividers, Endless, Only the People, This Lying World, Zombie Autopilot, Black Hearts Now Reign. Their set was definitely the most fun out of anyone's. After Unearth we decided to go take a break during Clutch and From Autumn to Ashes. During CLutch, Jeff sold me a pass for $5 and holy crap was it worth it. I ended up meeting Mike Akkerfeller, Ken Susi, Buzz McGrath, Trevor Phipps, the singer and gutiarist from Poison the Well, Randy Blythe, Wille and Chris Adler, John Campbell, and Mark Morton. By the time Lamb of God took the stage, I was literally ON the stage. It was definitely the coolest thing I've ever done. Lamb of God's setlist was: Laid to Rest Hourglass As the Palaces Burn Now You've Got Something to Die For Ruin 11th Hour The Faded Line What I've Become Break You The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion Vigil Black Label The view of the crowd from the stage was amazing...pictures might be up soon. | | Friday, April 8th, 2005 | | 8:58 am |

Weekend update... Friday night was rockfest, which was by far the worst show I've ever been to. Fill In The Blanks went on first, they're just a bunch of teachers from Union High that played 70's cover songs. Then after them there was some girl playing acoustic guitar and singing Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory songs. After she was done making our ears bleed, Selsius went on. I expected a much better set from them, but they were good anyway. After Selsius, Bedlight For Blue Eyes played. There's no way that band belongs on Trustkill records. They said they were playing their last song...then played four more fucking songs. By far the worst band I've ever heard. If I didn't hang out with Parker during that set i think i would have gone crazy. Forrester was next after Bedlight. Everyone was just waiting for them to play Sleepwell Sweetheart. When they finally did, I was totally suprised at how many people knew that song. Literally everyone i looked at knew the words to the beginning. So when the breakdown at the end finally came around, we started spreading the pit out and i felt someone grab my wristband and pull it off my wrist. I thought nothing of it becuase i wasn't missing that pit for a wristband. Then this security guy pulls me out of the pit by my arm and i see that he has my wristband in his hand. Then he goes "do you want this thing back?...get your ass out of here and go home." So i'm like what the hell did I do and he says "you ran into the people on the side of the mosh pit, you're not supposed to do that...you were moshing too roughly." I had the most confused look on my face because that's exactly what you're supposed to do. So i went out the door, and came right back in the other entrance because i wasn't missing that song. Forrester played the breakdown twice during the actual song and we made them play it again lol. Then yesterday was Ed's suprise birthday party at bryan's house. I wasn't even supposed to go because matt couldn't...luckily ashley called me and said she'd give me a ride. So her dad picked me up and we got lost a couple times going there because bryan lives in the middle of nowhere. We got there like an hour after ed, so there really wasnt much of a suprise anymore...but it was still pretty fun. Watched Napolean Dynamite, played pool, watched Dodgeball, pissed off neighbors with fireworks, played more pool. Scott gave me an "I Love Jews" tatoo which probably won't come off anytime soon. Ashley's dad came and got us at like 10, got home around 10:30 and went out with Cheese and Dave for a little while. Midterms sucked...as usual. I think i did pretty well on everything except for chemistry. Elmera told me i basically aced the history exam. Chemistry was really bad...it got to the point that i started spelling stuff on the scantron sheet. I got through CAB, DAD, and AC/DC...then i was almost done with ABBA CADABA and i ran out of numbers. So last night me, george, bill and mike went to see God Forbid in NYC. So we get to the train station at like 6:15 and meet mike there then walked a few blocks through Times Square to Virgin record store. We got there and we heard this really bad gangsta rap. So we realize it was coming from the stage downstairs and we had to wait until that was done, which felt like an eternity. I still have a headache from that. Then God Forbid came on. They opened with Force Fed, and as soon as the pit started to open up the security guards grabbed everyone and threw them around until we stopped. So there was no pit for a God Forbid show....go figure. So their setlist was Force Fed, Precious Lie, Judge the Blood, Soul Engraved, and Washed Out World. They played Washed Out World for the tsunami victims...we didn't realize that until we got home and we found that kinda funny. It was cool getting having Doc Coyle point at us cuz we were like the only ones singing along. God Forbid = fourth best show ever (behind Lamb of God, Unearth, and Iced Earth). So yeah everyone's going on the retreat this weekend...anyone who's not going wanna chill?? | | Tuesday, January 4th, 2005 | | 7:30 pm |

UNEARTH
last night was the Not So Silent Night show when we got there we were chillin in the merch line for a while, and then we see Ken Susi from UNEARTH. So we get a picture with him and talk to him for a while, the show could have ended right there and I would've been happy. So we go get the bracelet things and get on line and go upstairs into the giant room that nobody ever knew about at Rex Plex. First band came on, Seamless. They blew ass. Then came Folly. They were fuckin amazing. They mix ska with hardcore/metal. I don't think i've ever seen people go from skanking to moshing in the same song before. So yeah that was a pretty fun set. Then From First to Last came on. Wow just when i didn't think it could get any worse than the first band. Their music wasn't that bad, just that they had a really girly sounding whiny singer. After them was Boys Night Out, they had a couple of catchy songs but overall it wasn't too good. Up next was the band most of the crowd was there to see....UNEARTH. They opened with "The Great Dividers" into "Endless." Then they suprised the hell out of us and played "Zombie Autopilot" then some song i didn't know. "This Lying World" was next and thats when the pit got crazy "oooooooooooh BREAKDOWN!" After that was "One Step Away" when Ken stood on the amp and played the guitar solo behind his head. Then they closed with "Black Hearts Now Reign" and they dragged the song out soooo much that when they actually played the breakdown there was literally blood on the floor. We got jipped though. Poison the Well didn't play because their drummer was in the hospital. We were pissed even though the crowd would just kinda be standing around during their set. We didn't stay for From Autumn to Ashes and Andrew W.K. because everyone was so tired after Unearth. So overall, in a crapload of pain and i have a sore throat, but holy crap was it worth it. | | Monday, December 13th, 2004 | | 12:13 pm |

just got home from the greatest fucking show i've ever been to First came Throwdown. They're pretty much a more melodic version of hatebreed. They got the crowd really going when they played a Sepultura cover. Next was Children of Bodom. After seeing the set they played, they're now one of my favorite bands. They opened with "Needled 24/7" right into "Bodom Beach Terror". I don't really remember their exact setlist after that, but i remember they played "Everytime I Die" and they closed with "Hate Me". Alexi is the god of Metal. I've never heard someone shred on a guitar like he did. Fear Factory played next and they were eh. We sat down for most of their set and waited for Lamb of God. Lamb of Gos finally came on, and i must say they tore the place apart. Nobody stopped moving and crowdsurfers kicked me in the head a bunch of times, but it was all worth it to be like 10 feet away from Lamb of God. Their setlist was: Laid to Rest Hourglass As the Palaces Burn Terror and Hubris Now You've Got Something to Die For The Faded Line Ruin 11th Hour Omerta The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion Pariah Vigil Black Label sore throat from singing along to everything, but it's all good. The show was broadcasted live on XM radio, so everyone had to go all out. And after the show, we realized that my fucking idols were standing right above us in the balcony thingy. Metallica was RIGHT there! now the only bad part about this is i have to wake up early to go to school tomorrow. PSATs were today, and i totally bombed that. Not looking forward to getting my scores back, but have to. Current Mood: soreCurrent Music: the loud ringing in my ears | | Wednesday, October 6th, 2004 | | 5:41 pm |

tonight was the much-anticipated show at St. Thomas in Rahway we got there and had to kill a few minutes because the mics were messed up. but when they finally cleared everything up, Forrester started. I have to admit they really did impress me live. Everyone always says how much better they are on stage than they were on their demo. They played really well and during their last song the pit really got started. So after they were done with their set, the second band came on but i forget what their name is. They were a kind of really heavy Rage Against the Machine sound. It was really good, and this was when the moshing got really serious. Me, Pollock, Billy and Dave King had a hell of a time. During their first song i got an elbow in the mouth and busted my lip and stuff. Bleeding in the pit is never fun, but hey why not. So after them My American Heart went on. They weren't as good as the band before them, sbut everyone still went all out. I was pretty much exhausted by the end of the 3rd band. So then the 2 headliners came up. First was Match Like Memory. I had never really listened to them before but they put on a hell of a show. The crowd was jumping all over each other to try to yell the lyrics into the microphone. Then after them was No Hollywood Ending, the band everyone came to see. I only know one song by them, luckily they played it. So then billy, matt, joey and i all did the whole jumping towards the mic thing. That was probably they most fun i've had in a long time. So for their last song everyone just went all out. So after a busted lip and a messed up knee, it was still a hell of a show. I bought the No Hollywood Ending cd, if anyone wants to borrow it let me know Current Mood: ouchCurrent Music: No Hollywood Ending- Once Loved Portrait | | Saturday, September 18th, 2004 | | 10:30 pm |

last night was Laura'a sweet sixteen party. it was an awesome time. i hung out most of the time with jill, liz casserly, kevin, ashley, and erica. i must say that everyone seemed drunk off their asses. but anyway, school starts tomorrow and that's not cool at all. this was definitely the best summer i've ever had and i wanna say thanks to all my friends for making it that much better. band practice wednesday through sunday. hopefully we can come up with a few more songs this week so we're ready for the St. Joe's show and i can give a nice big "fuck you" to Fate Fell Short. We also wanna play at Union High Rockfest in November because that's definitely the most fun show i've ever been to. Plus it would be fun to be the only metal band playing there. I wanna have both my bands play there, Sight Unseen and Threat of Invasion. I'm gonna try to get True Until Death and This Means Everything to play too just so we can blow the punk kids away. today was freshmen orientation. had to get up at 6 again which isnt fun. so i go to the bus stop and meet all the freshmen that are going to be on my bus this year. i was the only non-freshman on there so i spent the whole bus ride answering all the same questions they all had. so we get to school and i was assigned to roam the freshman wing for some reason, it was pretty pointless. but i did get to hang otu with brian and erica. so then i meet my freshman. we ended up just talking baseball for like a half hour in the cafeteria. then when we get home we decide to have band practice right after we got off the bus. so we just played in our uniforms cuz we're cool like that. it was definitely the funnest practice i think we've ever had. eddie, our drummer, had a soccer game so we had no drums to practice with which wasn't easy. we sounded like shit and steve's voice was crap so we decided just to fuck around. so we ended up playing "until the day i die" but re-doing the lyrics to make them about eddie's mom. good times, good times. then pollock and billy came over and we watched "the Punisher" but i really have no idea what happened in half of it cuz i fell asleep do to waking up at 6 in the morning. wow that's like my longest entry ever Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Iced Earth- High Water Mark |
